These Japanese Salad Turnips (Also known as Hakurai or Tokyo Turnips) are sweet and floral in taste and delicious eaten raw. They are charming with their white globe shape and a great alternative to your standard salad radish. In our opinion they are sweeter and milder (with the occasional turnip having a bit of warmth, akin to a radish). They are also brilliant roasted, as they become sweeter in the oven. Lastly, the leaves are delicious, we highly recommend eating them rather than composting them. In fact, you might recognize their mild, cabbage-like taste from some of the leaves we add to our seasonal mixed salad (turnip leaves are a cousin of the delicious salad Mizuna!). You can eat them raw, or cook them like any green, sauteed down, thrown into soups, or mixed through pasta sauces and risottos.
