Kohlrabi is an unusual but very delicious vegetable in the brassica family. It has a sweet, turnip like taste that is incredibly versatile in the kitchen. In fact, the name 'Kohlrabi' literally translates to 'Cabbage Turnip', but it is milder than both it's name sakes, with a sweet and subtle taste. It looks strange and rather alien like, but also striking with its purple appearance. The leaves are also edible and delicious, but the skin generally requires peeling. It can be eaten raw, grated into salads, or turned into coleslaw. It can also be cooked, steamed, stir-fried, turned into soups or stews, or dipped in a batter and fried to make tempura or fritters.
